A LITTLE BIT OF KNOWLEDGE GOES A LONG WAY
When dealing with people whether in business, or in friendship, you need to know how to relate to each and everyone's differences in personality traits. When you get hung up on some aspect of that relationship, understanding more about that generation will help you through the difficult times. Refer to my:
GENERATION GUIDE
CIVIC: Born 1945 and earlier (Ages 63 and older)
They have a strong "civic" sense of duty. They are hardworking individuals. Stability and security are extremely important to them. They do not waste anything. They experienced "Christmas Club" savings accounts and buying on lay-a-way. (before the dawn of the credit card)
Their heroes are Superman (1936), General Patton, FranklinDelano Roosevelt, and Winston Churchill.
BABY BOOMERS: Born 1946-1962 (Ages 44-62)
This generation "lives to work"! They believe in themselves, they are involved, and have a sense of community. Personal gratification is of utmost importance.
Their heroes are John Glenn, Jack and Jackie Kennedy.
GENERATION X: Born 1963-1976 (Ages 32-43)
This generation is the reverse of baby Boomers as they "work to live"! This is the generation of the "latchkey kid" where both parents work. They are very independent, needing no one's help. They always feel they can do it themselves. Nothing is ever complicated. This generation were victims of the Tylenol poisoning scare, and witnessed the space shuttle crash.
GENERATION Y: Born 1977 and after (Ages 14-31)
This is the new "me" generation-more narcissistic than the Baby Boomers. Apropos to this generation is "I am Special"! Performance is divorced from reward. Every person has value.
This group of people are fiercely independent; and very skeptic. Work is just a job.
They have experienced 4 major tragedies:
Columbine, Oklahoma City, Wakefied, and 9/11. Thus, they have no heroes because they trust no-one.
